Have you been thinking about trying a barre class but not sure what you’re in for? Are you a barre regular that would like to deepen your practice? Join Kristen for a 1.5 hour Barre Basics workshop. In this workshop Kristen will break down some of the most common exercises you will see in a barre class, discuss the anatomy involved, modifications available, and specific cues you might hear during class. Then put your new knowledge to work with a short class designed for all levels of students.
About Barre:
Barre is a low impact, full body workout that uses a combination of postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements, followed by a series of stretches for each muscle group. The use of light weights and mat work are also included in the workout.
About Kristen:
I fell in love with barre 5 years ago and decided to become an instructor 2.5 years ago. I became certified at a local yoga/barre studio and then completed an online training through the International Ballet Barre Fitness Association. Currently I teach several barre classes in and around Wilmington and have recently added yoga to my teaching schedule as well. Teaching is truly my passion and I love helping my students find their highest heels and deepest seats. Joining me for class means that you will certainly be challenged, yet I also pride myself on offering modifications for all fitness levels. Because I believe that fitness is not one size fits all, I encourage all of my students to find the moves that work best for them. When I am not at the studio you can find me chasing around my 3.5 year old daughter, Kat. She keeps me busy!
I look forward to seeing you at the barre!
