The Dance of Shiva w/Justin Reilley

The Dance of Shiva w/Justin Reilley

According to Hinduism, Shiva can manifest in many forms. Traditionally, we know him as the “destroyer” in the context of the Trimurti, but this label is mutable and Shiva can manifest in many forms from loving father, to fierce warrior, to meditative yogi.

Nataraja is one his most recognizable manifestations. In this form, Shiva embodies the form of a powerful dancer within a cosmic circle of fire that represents the simultaneous and continuous creation and destruction of the universe.

The cosmic dance is the dance of life itself, balancing the three aspects of the Hindu trinity, creation, preservation and destruction. Shiva teaches us that by stamping out ignorance, letting go of illusion (Maya) a yogi can achieve enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth.

In this class we will learn more about Shiva: his stories, poses, meditations, mantras, attributes, mudras and how these things can enrich our practice. We will experience a warrior flow that incorporates natarajasana. From the rhythm of movement to the stillness of meditation, we will experience the dance of Shiva and gain a better understanding of this can positively impact our lives.
